A civic-tech open data platform turning decades of Malaysian election data into something the public can actually read.
The challenge
SPR holds one of the richest datasets in Malaysian public life, and almost none of it was accessible to the citizens, journalists and researchers it exists to serve. Raw files are not transparency.
Our approach
We designed a data-first portal built on narrative rather than tables — headline figures that carry meaning, a searchable dataset catalogue, an infographic library, and a live 'what changed' feed. Every number links back to its source dataset.
What we built
- Searchable catalogue spanning datasets from 2008 onward
- Narrative statistics presentation — 222 constituencies, 21.8 million voters — rather than raw tables
- Themed data spectrum across nine election-administration domains
- Voter status and address-update services surfaced directly on the homepage
- Downloadable infographic library by general election
